Missed a mink today the door got hung up on some grass and did not shut all the way. Also had a swim through shut with nothing in it, not sure what happened there!

Maybe a mink. Eric had a mink get out of a funnel trap when I was with him. We measured the round hole it escaped through 2 1/4" across. I think they can probably squeeze out of 2x2. Small rats can get out too. Large ones can't.

That's what I was thinking Bruce, it wasn't to far from the cage I missed one in. The one mink I caught yesterday was in a comstock 1 1/2 inch wire but it was a huge mink.

Nice job on all the Mink.  Are you guys catching all these Mink in the same area you have trapped in previous years?
You would think catching that many would knock the population down a little but apparently not.
  Keep up the good work.

Catch most of them in the same areas every year.  I think the last 3 years we've  caught about 45 mink and I bet only 5 of those have been females.  Trapperguy would know for sure.  Females must not travel much and unless you set right on them you just don't catch them.  If we were catching a lot of females I think we would worry about over trapping them.  But since it's 80% or more are males we don't really worry about it.  That's just been are thinking on it.  We could be wrong.

Cultusman,
I am not exactly sure but at least 15 of those came from the same trap or one set right next to it.

Also I bet 30 of those 45 came from two farms five miles apart. Lots of mink in this area but it does seem some creeks are way better than others.

I bet it's not the trap, but the location!!! Wish I could find ten more just like it!!!! It's a twenty foot long One foot wide ditch between two ponds. The bottom pond is mostly cattails and after that pond the ditch flows about 500 feet then into a river. Above the trap is a pond then another small pond then more ditch then a five acre lake. So everything coming off the river comes up that small ditch!!! Like I said I want as many more of these locations as I can find!!!
