Lost Rifle in Little Naches
« on: November 07, 2017, 03:54:06 PM »
My dad lost his rifle while elk hunting in Little Naches on 10/28/2017. He either left it leaning against a tree, stump, or it slipped off his shoulder when he tripped and didn't realize it. We spent several hours walking back and forth in the small area that it could be with no luck. I'm sure we passed right by it more than once in our search. Terrible end to an "Any Bull - Peaches Ridge" tag.

He has been hunting with this rifle for nearly 50 years so it has a lot of sentimental value. He even took his first bull elk with it 40+ years ago just about 3 miles from where it is lost now.

It is a Remington 7mm Magnum with Leupold scope. Even though we are sure it will be rusted up it would be amazing if it was ever recovered and returned.

Here is the location (probably within a hundred yards) at the end of Road 888 along Fawn Creek.

Bummer, I spent some time in that exact area and hope you find it.  The trees unfortunately all look alike once you leave the clearcut.

Might be worth it to get a couple guys together and give it another once over.

Going to do another search on Friday morning with a couple buddies and will post a message on the board at Whistlin' Jack's.

Hopefully I can report back that it was found.

Thanks for the chat Naches Sportsman. I'll let you know one way or another on the status.

My dad was telling me 30 years ago that one of the guys he was cutting a unit with found a .300 h&h sitting against a tree in the little naches. He never could find the owner.

Bring chains Gunfire, you may need them to get up there depending on how much it snows. I should be able to get out tomorrow afternoon and could possibly tag along Friday.

Looked for about an hour and came up empty. There's 8" of snow in the meadow and 3" under the canopy with more on the way.
