You can. Like others said, the size of your rig makes a big difference. If you’re in a full size rig, 8,000 lbs won’t cut it if you’re really stuck. Mud has good suction & the capacity of the winch drops a bit with each layer of cable wrapped on the drum. 1-1/2 times your loaded weight is a good rule to not break. I put a 15,000 lb mile marker winch on a FabFours winch mount on my 3/4 ton for $1200 and another hundy or so for a 24” light bar.
