Mica Peak Moose
« on: November 13, 2017, 11:37:58 AM »
I have the Mica Peak Antlerless moose permit and I just found out IEP closed the Weller Gate due to soggy roads. Anyone over that way seen any Antlerless moose recently that might be huntable?

The gate is closed to full size vehicles.  Last word I got ATV were still authorized.

Correct, when IEP closes the gates for the year you are still allowed to go around them on an ATV (except Starr Rd. gate).  Head up top a ways then take the left that takes you back west to the ID/WA border.  Walk into the WA side at the tank trap and hunt that road out.  There are moose in there.

That is the exact plan for this weekend, but if anyone has tabs on a cow over in 127 or knows of a landowner that has problem moose please let me know. It might be much nicer packing a moose out of some farm land rather than off Mica Peak. :chuckle:

Steeleywhopper,  If you have been trying to get a hold of me today I am not ignoring you, I lost my phone today and because its a company phone its going to take a few days before I get a new phone.

I will be checking my trail cams if I have any moose on the camera I will leave a note on your truck.

I was able to get some permission from a landowner last weekend to access the IEP land and it paid off big time. I got up in there at first light and ran into a deer hunter that was hunting on a late permit, he told me he had just seen a cow moose not long before. After getting some coordinates from him I was able to find her bedded at 140 yards and make a great shot on her, she laid her head down and never moved again. Big thanks to everyone that offered info and help with packing out if I needed it. Great bunch of guys here and thanks Vandal44 for taking the time out of your schedule to show me some great country.
