I havnt even started to hunt yet. Next Monday I'll start my 2 week quest for a mule deer.

If past history is any indication I'll be calling my wife on the 8th to tell her to heat up some broth   :'(

My wife and I both got bulls and both struck out deer.  Tag soup it is!  I hunted blacktails pretty hard and never did see many bucks.  I missed one little tiny buck on a snap shot as he chased a doe across and abandoned road.  The only reason I got a shot off is because they were making a ton of noise with him chasing her in the brush.  I had about 1 second to get a shot off and already had the gun up because I knew he was coming.

But, I missed and will have to wait until next year.

I got married.... in October

I've already heard it all from every hunter I know about what a stupid time of year to get married. My wife said she doesn't care about the anniversaries, so it shouldn't disrupt my future seasons but this year was a mess. I'm going to go out for late muzzleloader but I'm not holding out much hope for this year
Oh, wow......you have know idea what you've done.......im sorry.

Your wife doesn't care about anniversaries because she hasn't had one yet.  That is a trap if I've ever heard one!!  You're in a very dangerous position!!

There's only really one month out of the year that I consider safe for marriage. That is july.  Child conception would be October- november......just like deer.  Lol

All eggs in one basket per season, pretty much. That's my excuse! First year in 5!

First season basket didn't have any bucks in it (comparatively). Our group saw two legal bucks and got one and missed the other. Had 4 kids tag in 1010 so I was busy (another excuse!)

Had a second deer tag for late season and put all those eggs in one private permission property basket... which fell through as I rolled in and parked. (Not due to me, but cost me. Deer standing in back yards all around me as I kept saying, "Oh, no problem. This is your place, you say what goes here.") Tried to find a spot last minute, plenty of hunters, no deer. At all. First time ever I could shoot anything I saw... and saw nothing!

Still, have 4 deer in the freezer (Just barely enough to last us (8 eaters) the year) so I'm very thankful for that.

And late archery elk is still available. Should get a day or two that I can go.

And if all else fails, there's roadkill potential for jerkey and sausage making...

I'm content.... Just still a little bummed. ;)

Almost time to call Cougars!

Hunted a few days deer numbers down so bad I just enjoyed watching them this year and I'm fine with tag soup. Hope to see some changes in the near future to help the deer rebound.

We have too much meat in the freezer. That kinda took my drive down a notch to want to shoot something I don't really need. I'm also focused more on predators at this point anyways.

Rule #1 dont pass up any buck on the first day you'd shoot on the last day. Shot the first big bodied buck i saw and don't regret a thing.

I passed up a legal buck on my way to work on the opener because as my coworker said I am an idiot. I just could not bring myself to call in sick cuz I stopped and shot a deer.

Then I passed another opportunity driving to work because I mistakenly thought it was private land, not public.

My opportunities have definitely gotten better road hunting my drive to work  :chuckle:

Never saw a bear where I could shoot it and no cats.  I won't be elk hunting any more so at least there was no tag to burn.

It was my first year and saw no deer (except for a doe on the road before shooting light in a 3pt or better area)

Nothing for me this year.
I let my 12 year old son take the shot which, in reality, was much more satisfying than killing a buck myself.  I'd pass up a lifetime of killing bucks to be there with him when he does it.
