Elk Area 3911 - where r the cow elk?
« on: November 25, 2017, 10:04:41 AM »
Am heading over next week for a four day hunt looking for a cow elk. For you guys that live or are fequently over there, where are the cow elk? Doesn't look like weather is going to change much between now and then. What's the snow level at? Thanks!

Anybody live in the Cle Elum or Ellensburg area that's keeping an eye on elk movement? Hoping to get a cow to fill the freezer next week...

I realize that. I've harvested 24 big game critters, most back in designated wilderness, and packed those and many more out on my back during backcountry backpack hunts, including a nice bear and deer and big tom cougar this year so far. But, in this 3911 area, with as much private ground as there is and limited time to scout while living several hours away, a little local knowledge on known elk movement would be helpful in just filling the freezer with a cow elk. I can shoot a cow elk over there until Dec. 15 so I'm going to spend several days over there looking for one next week and would appreicate some local knowledge. Thanks.

3911 has some, but little public land. Most of the private landowners already have lists of Master Hunters to call. You're probably more likely to get permission from a landowner in the western portions of the unit. Good luck.

Two weeks ago a few moved through the area. I was up there for 3 days last weekend we didn't see any elk below the power lines. Going back up this Wednesday to take a look. I have permission from quite a few landowners and they haven't seen elk for a while. I'll let you know if I hear of any movement. It would be cool if you filled all your big game tags in one season! Good luck and pray for more snow.

Thanks. Yeah, need some snow to push 'em down a bit. I've done this hunt a couple of times before and have a 'working knowledge' of the entire 3911 area, so I know where you are talking about and am planning on check that area out. Have four spots over there I plan to do super quick scout on Wednesday mid-day and then I have to decide which one to 'land' on. Have thru Saturday. PM inbound.
