How's everyone's season?
« on: November 26, 2017, 06:44:01 PM »
Just curious how everyone's season is going.  I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics, but my season is spectacular.   My pup is 8 months old now and he is catching on great.  We've harvested 3 chukar and a hun so far this season.  We've been able to get on birds almost every time we go out.  We would have more if I could hold up my end of the deal.  Seems to be plenty of birds this year.  Hope it's same for you all.

My season is going decent. I've harvested 11 wild roosters, a hun and 66 quail. My 4 year old female lab is shining this year, and Ber year old pup is doing very well for his first season

I'm in the same boat. I have an 11 month old GSP. His resume is looking good so far. 11 rooster (some wild, some release), 6 quail and 2 chuckar plus a few dove retrieves earlier in the year. All my big game hunting is done so we are going to hit it hard until mid January.

Good year on pheasants and below average on quail. Might be just because there seems to be good pheasant numbers so I’ve focused less on quail. Dog had a pinched nerve in her neck causing a bad limp. Had to rest her for 4 weeks so that slowed us down. Just getting going again.

Better than the last couple years for pheasants and about the same as last year for quail.

Golly, Old Fat Man me with the aging dog actually have a a few roosters and quail left over in the freezer!

No Huns yet, and to be honest, I enjoy hunting and eating them the most of all.

You guys keep good records.  I've had a better than average year.  No phez, but I don't target them.  Lots of quail, huns, and chukar.  I've had the best chukar year in a long time, I'm seeing good numbers of those.  Good duck and goose hunting too, but I don't get into that as much until it gets colder.

Opening week was great for us... group of 3 of us shot over 30 wild pheasants with quail and huns sprinkled in... seems like all birds had a great hatch though. cant wait to head over after Christmas!

I had a good hunt yesterday afternoon.  Found the chukars but I couldn't get below em.  Just seemed like the day was in favor for the birds.  Every time the pup would do d them we were above,  and they would head way down the hill into the fog before we could get around em.

I did pretty well on pheasants early in the season.  Haven't had a chance to get back in a while.  Hoping to make another trip soon.

Got up early on Saturday morning and made a quick trip over east. Moose pointed 3 roosters and being solo I picked the wrong side of the trees on 2 of them. The 3rd point was in some tall reeds and the bird held tight. Moose had to have been pointing it within inches because when it flushed, it flushed in the same spot I saw the reeds moving last. Also, added 2 bonus quail. Great day. That makes rooster #12 for moose! He is having a great year so far. He turned 1 year old last Wednesday (11/29) and has without a doubt, exceeded my expectations.
