Question for Sabotloader....
« on: November 29, 2017, 04:15:58 PM »
....or anyone else who has done this.    I merely addressed Sabotloader because he seems to have shot just about everything out of his guns.

Ever used the Remington 405 grain soft points, used in .45-70's, with a sabot out of a muzzleloader?   If so,what sabot did you use?   I have a couple of Knight .50 cal muzzleloaders I wouldn't mind trying with the bullet.   I have hundreds of the bullets for my .450 Marlin, enough that I will probably never shoot them all in my lifetime, and I thought maybe I could put them to use.

Most .45-70 bullets are .458 diameter.  I would recommend looking at MMP Sabots online and buy there orange HPH sabot which is designed for .458 bullets.  I have used these with Nosler ballistic tip bullets which are also .458.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, yeah I just didn't  want to buy multiple different .458 sabots to try and find the one.   I'm hoping somebody has shot them already so I'd at least have a place to start from.

I still have a few here someplace - but you do need the Orange .457/8-50 sabot to shoot them.  I THINK MMP is the only one that makes the 458x50 sabot...

I shoot this 45-70 bullet with the Orange sabot from my Knights... Load and shoot great

This sabot..

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

In doing some research there are not a lot of .458 sabots.   Knight sells one, probably made by MMP, but not a lot of options.
