Need some elk brainstorming advice please
« on: December 09, 2017, 03:30:46 PM »
So.....any state that holds them, Fall of 2019 outfitted/guided elk hunt. I have no points built up in any state. Don't need to shoot a monster. Rifle is the weapon of choice. Where would you go? Do you have an outfitter you have used? Would recommend? @bearpaw Dale, if you were going to make a recommendation or if a client came to you and said where can I go, one on one guided, best chance of being able to tag a decent bull that isn't behind a fence what would you suggest? Oh....and don't say Graham,WA!  :chuckle:

Is that coming up in Feb? Trying to remember. I'd like to go down but don't want to fall for any flashy booths with photos of big bulls.

H2O, have you considered purchasing a hunt plan? I know a cat who does these in both MT and WY and I think folks are pretty darn successful with them (and equally important, happy with his customer service throughout the process).  Much less out of pocket than a full blown guided hunt.  He can also recommend a good outfitter in both those states if you wish to go that route.  Just another option in your tool kit sir :).  RJ

There are a few outfits that are now doing this.. The guy I know and endorse is a former, successful outfitting business owner (Montana) that sold his outfit a few years ago.  What he does now is sell said "hunt plans" for folks that perhaps, don't have the time or opportunity to travel to the elk states and research an elk spot (I believe he has plans for deer also).  He is not a sponsor here at this time so I won't offer his business name openly (respecting the head cook and bottle washer of Hunt WA) but will respond to your PM's if asked.  It really is a pretty damn cool deal.  RJ

Edit:  Sorry, I'm trying to cook some chow and do some hunting forum page stuff at the same time.  The hunt plan pretty much provides you with pin point, previously productive, spots to hunt for the season/type of weapon, and, additional tips such as access points, campsites, etc.
