Weatherby or Winchester
« on: December 10, 2017, 11:21:31 AM »
Looking into my next rifle for some time now.. I have one rifle in weatherby vanguard and another in Winchester model 70 both are older sentimental and  I love them equally.. so  any gun nuts out there wanna share their opinion as far as current quality vs value models of either brand... I know a lot has probably changed over the years but if you had to chose one, weatherby or Winchester what do you pick? (I am not specific to models)

have both, but would look hard at Browning X-Bolts and Savage now.....   Do like my Weatherbys though.  The new cerakote models are nice.

I always wanted a Winchester with a stainless barrel, Pre 64 style bolt, with a nice piece of walnut, chambered in .270 win.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Weatherby
I have stainless MK 5 in .257 mag
I was going to sell it as I wasnt a fan of the 26 inch barrel
Decided to to have it cut down and recrowned
Glad I did
I do really like the Ruger American though , smooth action

Model 70 all the way. My wife has a Weatherby and while it is a nice shooter it just doesn't have the same quality feel to it. Both will do the job well though. I guess that is the thing about opinions, everyone has one.

Really if you are sentimental with both, keep them the way they are and invest in the
dream rifle. You will not regret it. Then best of all worlds

Have an older vanguard that I love, it shoots a ragged hole at 100 yards. I guess the trigger on the new one is better but I don't much care for the new synthetic stock. Winchesters come with nice wood and if you got the pre-64 style action that is such a looker. Weatherby comes with a accuracy guarantee, not sure if the Winchester. Go hold them both and see which one fits you better. That is what matters most.  :twocents:
