My small spread for ducks consists of 6 Hero Decoy mallards as well as 6 avian X feeder mallards. I do have about 8 or 9 ghg widgeon decoys. A little over a dozen full body ghg mallards, 6 tangle free full body widgeon and 6 Blue Collar pintail. The other decoys I have spread out at my house are mostly GHG. For snows I use 15 dozen Sillosocks converisions with Sky fly windsocks, 10 dozen sky fly windsocks as well as 6 full body Dakotas, 8 2-piece ghg snows, 6 bulk decoy club snows, 53 ghg 5/8 snow shells, 6 ghg specks, 6 hardcore honker full bodies and you'll see what I use for honkers next saturday

When hunting popular areas in Cali, I NEVER put mallard decoys out.   Everyone and their brother used those and I think ducks start to be weary of a dozen mallards floating in a group.

I used 6 teal, 3 pintails, a couple widgeon, and a couple spoonies.   I had better luck using that variety of decoys.   I think having decoys other than the norm (mallards) helps.

Sometimes learning where the ducks want to be and setting up with no decoys works best.
