Dealing with backyard poop
« on: December 15, 2017, 10:05:28 PM »
I have not been the best at keeping up with scooping the poop in the back yard. We have our GSP trained to go mostly in one area. Since it’s not where the kids play I’ve let it go too long often. We are now getting a 2nd bird dog as our GSP is 7 years old and we want to be ready for the changing of the guard so to speak. Part of my commitment to my wife is that I will be better at keeping everything picked up.

With 2 dogs could be double the work if I continue how I’ve been doing it. Basically just a shovel and a bucket. Then dump it in a bag and into the trash.

Anything you guys use to make the process more efficient? I know I probably need to do it daily to stay on top of it.

Since I missed the boat on this idea,  :bash: I keep a bucket with a grocery bag out by the garage with one of the $10 rake / scooper things. A couple times a week I get most of the piles, tie up the bag and toss it. Put new bag in and done.

My neighbor trained his dog to do his duties by the sewer clean out.  He put a foot operated trap door on the clean out, he just steps on the lever the door is locked opened drops in the mess.  Sprayes down a little water and is done.
This works best if you are hooked up to city sewer system, I don't see why it could not work with a septic system.

I use a handled dust pan and a little rake. Much more efficient than the shovel method. When I lived in town I also usually just bagged it and tossed it in the trash. But now I dump it in out of the way places in/around the pasture.

Have been using wood in a bag (Pellet Bags) just put in a 5 gallon bucket . When they get about 3/4 full pick it up give it a spin and duct tape. Send it away in the trash.

One of the old neighbor's who had the other neighbors dog coming over using his front yard used a golf club. His instructions said to watch the moisture content carefully. If they were too moist they wouldn't stick together and if they were too dry you didn't get the desired effect. BUT if they were just right you could return them across the street and they stuck to the front of the house.

Throw it over the fence, that's what we do. But I don't have neighbors, either.

When we had an actual dog, I wanted to get one of these.

Now we have a 10# pseudo-dog and she won't poop in the yard because she's a pain in the butt and we have to walk her every night. Poop gets picked up in poop bags and thrown in the trash.

Actually laughed out loud reading the golf club post!!  We live in the woods so we taught our dogs to go in the woods off the grass, very convenient.

My procedure consists of opening up the Schiesse mole mounds and then grabbing the shovel, transporting GSD piles down the holes seems to deter the little diggers. The neighbor complained that he didn't have dog poop to throw in the holes. I told he should not wish it on himself...

I use an old dog food bag.  It's essentially a garbage in/garbage out cycle. As soon as the poop bag gets full, the next food bag is empty.
