How many days afield w/ your hunting partner?
« on: January 07, 2018, 10:29:38 PM »
As the season is coming to a close I have been reflecting a lot on our year. My GSP is 7 now and each year I have progressively increased our days afield. This year will top 20 even though we sat out for 4 weeks with a soft tissue injury over thanksgiving. Sitting at 20 now hoping to squeeze one or two more hunts in. Some days were only an hour, other’s all day slogs. Dakota is an all year family pet and we love her dearly. However, there is just no better time as a dog owner than October-January.

How many days do you typically make it out to hunt with your 4 legged hunting buddy? I know they live for those days with feathers in their mouth. Out of 365 days in a year she only got 20ish days.

Comparison is the thief of joy so I don’t mean to compare myself to anyone else on here...more I’m just curious. How many hunts makes it worth it to put in all the time and effort of training and owning your own bird dog? If I didn’t bird hunt I don’t know if I would own a dog.

I feel like I've hunted a lot this year and I just added it up. We have about 12 days. 20 is super impressive.
I aspire to be able to do that some day.
Lead em if they're running.
