Quality barrel question
« on: January 18, 2018, 09:22:45 PM »
A member has a thread about shooting out his 243 and in the course of the thread, barrel quality was mentioned. My brother in law wants us to do a gun build together and he's a big fan of hart barrels. I have heard good things over the years about Krieger and recently green mountain. The reason for the hart barrel has to do with going to the factory and doing a tour and buying a barrel kind of thing. Opinions?

Krieger, pacnor and benchmark are my faves. Lately all my builds have been benchmark. I have 2 krieger and 1 pacnor left.

In a year and a half I have done 6 benchmark and one more is soon to join the pack lol. Wa company and great quality. If you need a shop that will turn you out a nice rifle let me know and I can send you some info.

I have a Hart on a BR gun.  I also have a Shilen.  Both are good barrels.

Most barrels lose accuracy due to poor cleaning techniques or shooter mishandling.  See where I mentioned shooting one out in under 500 rounds.

Several Broughton currently, and gets my nod every time. But have had a dozen or so Harts over the years, and all have been VERY accurate. Plus, a tour would be a fun bonus👍

I'll have to check out benchmark. Thanks. I appreciate the offer on the shop info and may take you up on that but in this case the whole process is probably happening in New York.

Yes I read what you wrote. I know a couple guys that shoot really hot loads and on some of those guns they change those barrels at about 5 or 6 hundred as well.

Hart makes an exceptionally good barrel, they are one of my favorites, but there are many different barrel companies that I believe, also, make exceptional barrels.

You can't go wrong with Hart, Krieger, Bartlein, Brux, Lilja, Benchmark, or Broughton.

Thanks. It sounds like the Hart place in New York will do most of the work if I bring the action in. Sounds like my brother in law has it pretty dialed in there. He has built several guns with them.

0 if it’s in stock where I get most of mine. I’ll send a link tonight and you can see if they have something in stock that might work for you.
