I will never understand...
« on: February 06, 2018, 06:38:15 PM »
Why people feel the need to steal someone else’s stuff. I went to check a cam today, about 2 miles deep. In a really thick patch of nasty stuff. Only reason to ever be in there is if you are hunting, that’s the sad part. Almost guaranteed it was a hunter. Looks like they found the cam, came back later with a sawzall and cut it off at the tree. I’m getting pretty tired of this stuff. You know, just two weeks ago I was duck hunting and came across a cam. Guess what I did?!? I LEFT IT!! It wasn’t mine. So to the absolute worthless piece of trash that stole another cam of mine, I hope one day you get yours. If I catch you, you won’t be walking out of there.

I hear you, As a trapper I have had a lot of traps stolen over the years and I would bet most of them are hanging in somebodies garage or barn. You go to a garage sale and there are two or three traps of different vintages it is easy to think they were stolen.
So why do people do this? It really makes you mad and believe me mentally speaking thinking about it can be more damaging then the actual loss.
I have to believe most people are honest but there is just something about something left unattended that is too much temptation for some people.

I hear it. I’m not as upset as I have been in the past when having these stolen. This one makes number 3 in the last two years and all have been 2+ miles in from closest road. I just don’t understand the mentality of people. Pretty sad day we live in. On a side note, I did go buy a new rifle to help ease the pain! Hahaha

I hate that crap too.  I would NEVER EVER steal or ever touch someone's stuff.  Now as far as cams go, you might see my butt crack now and a gain though. :IBCOOL:

Sorry.   Been there and it sucks.

Had a couple stolen a few years back. Really deflating.

I finally know that feeling. Been running 15-20 cams the last 3 years on public and private. Finally had one stolen that was on private ground. Pretty much know who stole it but cant prove which makes it more frustrating

Had my cousin get his stolen and mine messed with, both were about 3 miles in the backcountry.  Luckily mine was lag bolted w 3 screws into the tree with a lock that you can’t cut.  They were smart enough to not get in view of the camera.  Hate thieves, and your most likely right, I’m sure it’s other hunters.

I wonder if those little black dots that you can stick to things and track with your phone would work good if we start putting (hiding) them in the cameras?

You know I had this one lagged with 4 big bolts, in a custom cam box that we made where the lock is not accessible. The stuck a sawzall behind and cut the bolts off. They are still in the tree. I’m only going to do so much. If these knuckledraggers want the things that bad nothing is going to stop them. I guess the only other thing to do is use stainless bolts so they chew through every blade they have. Or maybe I’ll glue some razor blades in the cove where the lock goes. They will learn pretty quick then

Well, consider this:

Was it private or public land?

It is frowned upon by timber owners for folks to put nails, screws, lag bolts, etc, into trees.    The result to a chainsaw when falling timber or in a sawmill when milling will damage machinery and may even injure or kill someone.  I have seen a big band mill shuck off teeth on "buried" big spikes in a log.

Might be a law against this stuff.

Maybe, just maybe, a woods worker found the camera and confiscated it.

Before you get to drastic with revenge you should find out who manages the property and ask questions about game cameras and the installation out in the woods.   Leaving a booby trap that injures someone will get you in mucho hot water.

All it takes is one incident to convince the land managers to lock up their properties.

I was in the desert. Not sure they do active logging there. Not private timber company land. And just for the record I’m not going to booby trap anything. If someone wants a cam that bad, not much else I’m going to do. It is what it is.

Nothing is safe from thieves these days. To bad you couldn't give them mountain justice, and leave them for a carcass cam.
