2016 Toyota Corolla air filter question
« on: February 13, 2018, 03:36:23 PM »
So, I needed to change the air filter in my 2016 Toyota Corolla.  I opened the air box and there are 2 filters in there.  I can only find the one on the right for sale anywhere.  Does anyone know what the one on the left, still in the top of the box is called so I can replace that one as well?

Thanks

The one on the left is just a screen to stop big stuff, just knock it clean, replace the other one.

The housing it's in has the MAF sensor.  Is it safe to be knocking it around?

:yeah: i ran into that with my 05 tundra. that secondary "screen" is firmly attached to the housing, too.

If it's secure, don't fiddle with it.

The car isn't under warranty.  Does the screen do anything?  Could it be restricting air flow?  I have the LE Eco model and get about 40mpg but, I'd love to get more if more air flow will help

it's there to protect the maf from chunks, I wouldn't touch it. Just trust that some smart guy from Toyota had a plan.

I bet you've used that line before.

I am not sure about Toyota but in GM vehicles it is for emissions. It stops/filters the hydrocarbons and other gases from leaving the intake manifold after the vehicle has been shut off.
