Salmon idaho units
« on: February 23, 2018, 05:21:47 PM »
Was wondering what the weather is. Like mid October to mid November in Salmon, Idaho area?  Who will have good unit maps I can order? Or any advise you can give me hunting that area? Thanks
I'm a huntress.

Well it can be heat of Summer in mid-October and Dead Heart of winter in Mid november.   Hunt waterholes at times mid-october but was in a foot of snow mid september last year.  Mid november typically snowed out most areas.

Have only hunted 2 seasons there, but in both seasons we had days that were in low teens with white out blizzards, and days in the high 60's. Be willing and able to cover ground. Committing yourself to one area could work out, but there's a good chance it will result in not seeing much. The ground is crazy steep in much of the area, be in the best shape of your life. Theres nice bulls and bucks to be had there, my avatar buck is from there, but don't go there expecting trophies. I'd be happy with a 3 point or small 4 point in most of that ground, especially after the winter kill last winter.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

It's steep and that time of year the weather is extremely unpredictable. You might be in snow, you might be in 60 degree weather with blue skies, you might experience both in either order in a couple days time. Keep in mind that there is a difference between hiking like a Mt. goat on the west side and hiking like a Mt. goat when you start out a 6,000ft and go up from there.
