spring bear question
« on: March 15, 2018, 07:56:03 PM »
I drew spring bear for the first time and read on the WDFW site that they mail you a packet for sending in the tooth to age, do they also send a "tag" for spring bear?  I figure they send something so you could prove you have a spring bear permit.

I know the spring bear counts to the 2 bear limit so I am more interested if the packet has some kind of documentation for the permit and sorry if this is a stupid question guys.

Thanks,

Chris

You will get a permit card to carry along with your license.  The tag is obtained just like deer or elk tags when you initially ordered everything.

No need to buy a second tag unless you tag out in the spring hunt and want to hunt bear in the fall.

If you don't tag out in the spring hunt, that tag is still good come fall.

You use the bear tag you already purchased, there isn’t a “spring bear tag” just the permit.

You will get a permit in the mail and for some west side hunts there are prehunt meetings with landowners, DNR, etc and you will get a packet there with maps, gate combos, and tooth envelope

Thanks for the quick responses guys and for clarifying it.  I figured they would mail you a permit or something to carry with you but like I said I have never drawn spring bear.  Now I better get back to the maps and scouting areas to check out.

Me too and defiantly will post up about the hunt, never been to this unit and just kind of threw a dart.  between spring bear in Wa and Elk in Idaho I have got a lot of practice with google earth and onXmaps scouting areas.

One thing to realize is that if you draw a spring bear permit on the east side and harvest a spring bear there isn’t a second tag for east side fall bears. 1 per year spring or fall

Yeah I read that as well, I have never seriously hunted bear so if I can fill this spring tag it will be my first bear.

Congrats on the draw. Not a gimmie at all so get out there as much as you can. I bet you could ask for some pm leads and gather some good intel. Post up a notched tag!

Thanks and I thought about asking for Intel but don’t want to be that guy so just going to scout online and start heading over to get boots on the ground next month.  I plan on going with my buddy and carrying my rifle and have my buddy pack the shotgun so we can scout and Turkey hunt at the same time.

I can't speak for everyone but spring bear intel should be fairly available. Put it out there.

I think with our predator situation and current controls (read lack of), you will find many that are willing to help someone out if it means helping the deer & elk.

Good luck!!
