GMU 371 Alkali access Questions
« on: March 17, 2018, 07:48:45 PM »
The regs state that access is strictly limited for special permit draws. I would like to know if all of the unit or just a portion of it within the military installation? I would assume access info would come with your permit. Also, do they allow small game hunting and if so, who do you contact for access questions. What is the official name of the military installation? It's always been referred to as the Yakima Firing Center.
Any info would be helpful - Thanks!      Joe

You just go to the main gate and tell the guards your there to get a recreation pass.  They will do a quick background check on you and send you to the gym to read a pamphlet, pay a small fee and get your card.  Then you'll go back to the main gate and check in with the guards.  The training center is broken up into several units, you can pick three units to access at a time.  The Training center can close units at any time, and each day the closed units vary. Yes you can hunt small game, birds, coyotes and what ever is open without a permit.

Don’t forget to be polite to the guards at the gate. They can be really friendly if you come in well organized and treat them with respect!

There's an extension on the passport requirement until October 2018.  A valid Washington driver's license should work.  However, it's a good idea to take a passport if you have one in case you get a guard who is not aware of the extension. If you plan to go regularly you should consider getting an Enhanced Driver's License which will be just as valid as a passport for Training Center access.

That is an approved form of ID.

People without a Washington State Enhanced Driver’s License or ID must provide one of the following forms of ID to get a base pass:

•   U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card
•   Permanent resident card or Alien Registration Receipt Card (INS Form I-551)
•   Foreign passport with a temporary I-551 stamp or temporary I-551 with printed notation on a machine readable immigrant visa
•   Foreign passport with a current arrival-departure record or foreign passport with INS Form I-94/I- 94A bearing the same names as the passport and containing an endorsement of the alien’s nonimmigrant status, if that status authorizes the alien to work for an employer
•   Employment authorization document that contains a photograph (INS Form I-776)
•   Driver license or identification card issued by a State or outlying U.S. possession that is Real ID compliant. For Washington and Minnesota this is the Enhanced Driver License or Enhanced ID
•   JBLM-issued Rapid Gate Identification
•   U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Card or Transportation Worker ID Card issued by DHS
•   Native American tribal document
•   U.S. Government issued, authenticated Federal PIV credentials
•   For anyone under 18, a school ID card that contains a photo

Thanks to everyone who replied with such quality access info for the alkali unit. You've given me a huge head start and helped me avoid some of the hassles if I should try to gain access. Best of luck to you all in this years permit draws or general seasons!
