Today's score! A 52 year old Remington 700.
« on: March 23, 2018, 06:56:11 PM »
I'm a big fan of the old school Remington 700's. Especially in their original condition, completely entacted as sold off the sporting goods store gun rack. This one sat in someone's safe for many years after the original owners passing. I stumbled onto it by over hearing a conversation as to what it was worth. I made a offer and it was a done deal, this particular 700 is chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum with the factory original open sights, which is rare for older "Hunted" Remington 700's. Usually at least the rear sight is removed and lost when a scope is mounted or the original hood for the front sight is missing.

This one is completely entacted. The barrel is blued but under the .300 Win Mag designation on the barrel it is marked "Stainless Steel" over the years I have picked some of these blued/ Stainless Remington rifles. They have all shot very well. They were built right back then.

Even came with the old school original soft case and a old school Leupold 3-9 with Weaver bases and rings.

Serial number is six numbers and no letter prefix! COOL STUFF!

Is there a clip slot under the rear base?

No, none of the old school blued/stainless Remington 700's I have are clip slotted.

I have persenaly only seen clip slotted old school Remington's chambered in .308 or 30-06.

The bore cleaned up nice and is pristine. Now I'm going to order some 181gr Hammer Hunter bullets and see how it shoots.

This one should have the two little screws on the upper left rear of the action for a peep site, doesn't it?

I'm not sure what year they stopped tapping them for a rear peep site.  My 6.5-284 is built on one of the older Rem 700's and all my other 700's are newer and aren't tapped.

I had a square block safety clip slot rifle that was 7mm mag. It seems to be random and more than likely how their machines were set up at that point in the run.
