Did you see the elk harvest 2017 Yakima herd?

spikes were no where to be found. I don't recall seeing such low numbers. :'(

Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

I think you'll have better odds of seeing a bigfoot than a spike out there.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Not one spike on the 6 cameras I had out this winter between the two passes.

This was to be expected. See the 2017 Game Status and Trend Report page 136 https://wdfw.wa.gov/publications/01961/wdfw01961.pdf. Yakima herd had historical low calf:cow ratio of 22.  Not sure of the date of the report, but it would be nice to see this prior to deciding where to hunt since it affects success. Low calf crop a result of the 2015 drought effect on pregnancy, fewer calves born in 2016, thus fewer spikes during 2017 hunt.

Out of District 8, which is GMU's 334 through GMU 371, 472 cows and 47 spikes were killed by archery hunters. Modern firearm was 50 cows and 267 spikes. Muzzleloader 59 spikes and 4 cows. This is all for the general seasons. Archery success rate about 10% and modern and muzzleloader both 3%. Looks like it's a good thing they're trying to reduce the cow harvest by archery hunters.

Before you come to your conclusion, add in all the permit cow harvest to your totals.
What you posted is the true definition of fake news and stupid agenda pushing. Not even close to the whole/true numbers of cows killed during all hunting seasons.

Look at the 1 to 3 percent success rates for modern firearm. Why would anyone even bother hunting that season? Look at Rimrock. 608 hunters killed 5 spikes for a 0.8% success rate. One of the best units, Naneum, had 1,661 hunters for a harvest of 49 spikes. What a joke. All these units need to be permit only.

Post up the PERMIT cow kill numbers for those units for modern hunters.

Pretty low numbers overall compared to what it used to be. Glad to see they're doing something to try to bring the numbers back up. At least in this case we can't say they only care about selling licenses.

Never mind what I said about permit only for these units. I always forget that any elk we don't kill, will be just that many more the Yakamas will take. So I'm still in favor of the idea proposed on here a while back- we adopt the same seasons and limits as the Yakama tribe.

As a Colockum archery Hunter I look at those numbers in a totally different way. What I see, is when you take away the opportunity for a general antler less season, your chance of success just dropped by 90%!
