That would be awesome. What about raising the harlequin limit from one a year?

I'm for that.  I have been waiting to shoot a Can for ages.  Maybe this year I'll be able to get em.  John

I am for that as well.  I see a ton of pintails and I sit and pass them by until I see a drake with a monster pin.

Now that we are going to be able to shoot a Can and extra pinny's, just a gentle reminder to all.  If you are going to shoot one to have mounted, remember the later in the season you can harvest one the better.

The early birds still have a lot of Pin feathers growing in which doesn't leave you or your Taxidermist a lot of options for a great mount.  From November on is more suitable.

I don't know about you guy's but I'm ready to go hunting!!!!!! ;) :)

I tend to disagree. Why not make it a one a year limit on Cans? If they are doing as poorly as they have stated, why not give them a little break? Next year are they going to pull them back off the limit? Seems to be poor management IMO. I was also fine with one pintail a day. They should make it bulls only too. I know the westside is loaded with them- but they also need a little help.

Pintails do not need help in the pacific flyway.  At all.  The problem has been the pacific flyway pintails have been managed taking into account the other 3 flyways where they do need help.

Cans do not need a 1 a year limit either.  The numbers are high enough to support a harvest.

You also need to remember hunting harvest has minimal to no effect on population.

They also need to raise the redhead limit up from 2 to maybe 3 or 4.  They have been thriving for the past few years.

The reason that is at 1 a year is due to lack of research.  They don't know what causes the rise or fall in harlequin population and don't have enough data to set seasons and limits accordingly.  So they just restrict it to minimal.  We should be thankful its not closed.

The first duck I ever shot was a canvasback back in 1990.  I've never seen one since, theres not many of them flying around my neck of the woods.  I wouldnt mind shooting one again some day.  Come to think of it I've only killed one pintail also.  Maybe I'll get a chance at one or the other this season.

I think 1 canvasback is a good deal.  Not to many people get an opportunity to harvest them in the state.  It depends where you are located, so the harvest may not be that great, but oviously some guys will get one on each outing.  Pintails have been thick.  I have had to sit and watch 50-100 pintails come into the decoy spread and look over the birds until I saw a wigeon or gadwal that I could shoot.  Good numbers.

do you see a lot of them up there? I thought I read the numbers were hurting. I saw your pics of the old squaws on your duck boat... I love those birds. I hope to get one mounted.
