First bear of 2009. Comparing the bear to me I am guessing it weighs 250-300 lbs. (Im 6'2 and weigh 265; and the bear was my size.) Great start to the season! Going out again on Thursday, I will post more pictures!

From the pic it looks maybe 200-225 live. Head looks a bit small, but still a great bear. Congrats

Heres the story. We walked into our spot on stevens pass at about 5:15am and walked into the first clearingbut did not see anything. So we started walking toward the next one and I stopped and glassed the top of the clearcut and he walked out from behind a stump, I new he was good sized when I saw him because he was right next to an old growth stump and he was taller and way longer than the stump. Anyway we walked up the road keeping an eye on him and I watched him bed down in some tall bushes about 100 yards below where the road ends up in the clearing so we hauled but up to the top of the hill. When we got up there we were watching the spot he had bedded in and I looked to the right and just caught a glimpse of him going over the hill so we ran over to the top of the ravine witch was right at the end of the road. We sat there waiting for him to come out, we knew he was going to because the ravine was right on the tree line and it was getting pretty hot so we figured he would be trying to escape the heat. Well we were right we started hearing branches breaking in the ravine and he walked into view about 115 yards down the ravine he was'nt spooked so I am thinking he never even new we were there. I ended up getting a good rest on a big rock and taking a shot hit him right behind the shoulder and blew up his heart looked like jelly when we gutted him. He only went 25 yards and piled up in the ravine. His hide was ok no bad rub spots but his hair was not as thick as in the fall. As we were going back up the ravine we seen another bear around the same size and it is my fiances turn to shoot. We are going back thursday so we will post pictures.
