"...but he didn't get the meat" WOW!
« on: September 26, 2009, 08:38:45 AM »
I was just talking to an "acquaintance" who said:
"My cousin just got a big bull with his bow, he had this huge rack in the back of his truck, he didn't get the meat.."
"He didn't get the meat?", I asked.
Reply,"He was helping somebody else pack meat out"

Ok so it's a shaky, third or fourth hand story but have respect for the animal for Christ sake!

Thats specifically why Alaska has the rule the antlers are LAST LOAD, or you are busted.  They also require ribs in a lot of places and NECK MEAT.

 :yeah:

I got my elk this year it was an easy pack to the truck, I dragged the entire elk to the truck. And just to follow tradition of antlers being last. I lifted the Buttocks up first and then put the head in!!!!!!!

Yeah I just wanted to vent... odds that he has a legit excuse are slim but you never know. My buddies both packed their spike heads out first before setting up and going in after the quarters... but you don't really shoot a spike for the rack :chuckle:

He's not my cousin.

That is B.S. Grrrrrrrrrrrr this needs to be taken care of by the authorities.

Exactly Bone. I did not want to make two carries with my Dall sheep back many years ago, so I boned it out on the mountain, took all the meat including the neck meat, and the ribs for that day's meal plus the cape, skull etc. I was a load but I did it. Best part of the river crossing. I did not have any problem floating like I did in the morning with a light pack.

Well I know of a guy who stuck two different bulls in the blues and didn't recover either of them. Then he ended up shooting a real nice 7 x 6. Makes me sick to my stomach when I hear stuff like that. It happens everyday.

Not only that in a lot of units the meat has to still be attched to the bone on the quarters. Try that with a moose!!
Too many people waste meat, thats how those laws come about.

I did.  9.5 miles out to the truck.   I got away without the neck meat because a Kodiak claimed it as ingested it.

From the Washington State Big Game Hunting Regulations

I've seen that one, was just wondering if there was anything regarding meat before antlers...
