Atleast you will know if the deer have located the box yet.. You may end up refilling it.

These traps are not good for the deer.  Knocking thier antlers off early (even with wimpy rubber straps) can cause excess bleeding and damage to the pedicle.  As much as I enjoy finding antlers, I'm not sure placing antler traps is a good way to do it.   :twocents:

I'm not sure that a deer would go at the feed hard enough to knock off antlers that aren't ready.  I actually watched a buck once shake his head violently enough to send his antlers flying.  On other occasions I have found places in the snow where you could see blood splatters from bucks shaking their head to lose antlers and found antlers close by.

I completely agree. I also have seen them want them off their head so bad after one has dropped that they slam their head against a tree.  I do not know how that would be any different?   :twocents:

They don't like the imbalance feeling, so they often rub the other one off nearby or shake it off, if they can.  I've found sheds with portions of the pedicle broken off near fences, where the they just got jarred too hard upon landing.  I have one mulie shed from NM with pedicle and some hide!

A easy feed is whole barley. Feeding it was one of my show winning rabbit raising 'secrets'. Puts a healthy shine on livestock. Better than corn for vitamin content and digestiblity. It grows good in the Pacific Northwest, before the temperature rises over 60. Any that spills or gets wet will spout quickly and given suitable conditions matures in a couple months. A patch of it can become self sowing. It's primary commercial use is making beer or whiskey. Last eighty pound bag was about 12 dollars American.

My little cuz lives in Stevens Co. on a dairy. The feeder that they use for there dry lot cows is round with metal tubing and the deer are always losing there horns in the feeder. He found his 1st this year around the 20th of Dec.

Here is the only monster I have coming in besides does..  I think that the feeder needs to be a little deeper than it is.  That is if you had bucks coming to it...
