Need Your Ideas....Turkey shooter
« on: January 20, 2008, 06:33:33 AM »
Ok, so I need your ideas. I want to make a cheap turkey shooter. I want a single shot turkey gun, short stock, with a "changeable" choke. My thought originally was to get a used youth 12gauge....camo it up ...., but I have not been able to locate one yet...

What are your thoughts...ideas...?

I see a few used H&Rs around here once in a while $100ish also our Bi-Mart stores sell them new for under $200 . Have you checked your local Wal-mart they can order one out of their catalog .

You may have better luck finding a youth 20 gauge.  That would still be enough gun for turkeys.

I bought my wife a youth 20 gauge pump at walmart. It comes fully camo. It only comes with a modified tube but you get different ones.

h&r like slenk said the way to go... in 20 gauge if it's for a kid and if you want a cheap gun.
you can buy an 870 for under $300 though, and buy a youth stock for it, then when the youth grows up, put the adult stock back on it. you can also trick it out with so many different toys it will make your head spin.
the h-r's won't have a vent rib on them i don't think to put  any kind of add-on sights on, which i think is important.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a  12ga. mossberg 500, been using for years... with glo sights... This is an aged old shotgun, someone else had used to death before me. Still works, but am looking for something else. Turn this one into my loaner...

The H&R would work, but i like adding upgrade sights...

I want this shotgun for one shot a year. I may dork it up with a homemade camo pattern. Heck I would even sawzall the stock a few inches shorter... (No one is going to want this gun when I am done with it...   :chuckle: )

Maybe I will keep looking at the used gun shops....

I am going to get a mossberg 935 for turkey/goose, but this is a bit overkill for the turkey season...
