SPOT-satellite: check it out

I did a little reading about this device. I like the write up so far. Sounds like a person can get more bang for the buck out of this than the emergency locater beacon, but then it would depend on the users area, wants and needs.

Hmm?  I've wanted a cheaper alternative to the 599-699$ ACR Terafix units.  The newest one at 699$ does promise to get your signal to a satellite in 3 minutes with your location +/-9meters. With just one push of the button.  The SPOT needs to be turned on, given time to find the GPS satellites before sending the distress signal..up to 20+ minutes. I'll have to go back and look at the cost of service.
