I got this on an email today, not trying to poke fun at this poor guy based on the subject title, this was the title of the email I got.  Warning: the second set of pictures is very graphic.
This is just another reminder to anyone handling a firearm to read the instuction/owners manual first.

I don't own a muzzleloader and have shot one only once. But I work with some guys that are. I was told that when you load the rifle and don't get the ball all the way down the tube...it creates an air pocket between thw powder and the ball. When this happens it increases the volicity of the controled explosion there for causing the barrel to expand before the ball can get out of the barrel.     :dunno:   This is what I was told.

I had this happen to me with an old Hawken when i was 21 I accidently loaded it with smokeless powder when i shot it the chamber blew up and blew my left ear drum out i now have a hole in my ear drum and can bearly hear out of it i can't go swimming without putting an earplug in because it'll fill with water. Luckily my buddy that was standing right next to me had nothing happen to him. I won't make that mistake again :bdid:

I saw this out here several weeks ago. One of the Muzzy fans thought it was due to a poorly seated round. He was taking a test shot before he and his buddys started their hike into their hunting area. If I remember right he was flown from the first hospital to a better trauma center.

Many years back I bought an 870 that came with a video from Remington, may still have it?  It showed what happens when you underload the powder or put a 16 or 20ga shell in with the 12ga  BOOM!

This Savage ML is supposedly designed to be safe with black powder, substitutes, and modern smokeless powder.  I'd guess the shooter read that and then loaded up with a full measure of smokeless powder.  Failed to read that you have to drastically cut the charge size when using smokeless.  Darwin candidate.
