They make good crab bait.

Sometimes hard to be near them though when they are stinky.  I speared one in Banks one year and could hardly stand the smell of it to take it off my spear.

Good shooting!

Im sure some of these guys could use them for a baiting station? For those who are interested, when he says piles, he means hundreds of fish every weekend!

I know that they made for some outstanding bear pictures last year from the trail camera.  Pretty hard to believe they are like hogs and eat those nasty things scales and all!  They are also good to shove under the car seat of someone that Peed you off some hot summer day!

We used to trade them for dinner at the chinese restaurants.
Always seemed to be a great deal for everyone involved. The restaurant guys really liked them a lot.

It is not legal to bait bears in WA.Bears are what they eat,not so sure I would want to eat a carp bear.Hostess bears are delicious, though!!I use to bait in the early90's,before they outlawed it!!

I've always enjoyed carp shooting, but never cared to eat them.  How do you guys get rid of them without "wasting" fish?  Anyone ever been cited by WDFW?  Not trying to stir anything... just curious.

I have never ate any.I catch and release. In bowfishing tourneys they weigh and put into dumpsters and haul to dump. They use to have cat food people haul off ,and some still may.

Old thread and I am just now getting to answering about the waste question.  Never had any problems with WDFW on the waste part and I have never morally had any problems doing it.  It is a free sport for a reason, they are a nuisance and threaten the game fish.  I figure WDFW finds it more economical to maintain freshwater license sales than to get ticket money and charge for a license to bowfish carp.  Bear are what they eat comment....very true.  Good thing that once I quit throwing the fish out the bear quit coming up by my stand....Therefore I didn't bail illegally and wasn't successful enough to enjoy my nasty sausage that I would have made!

You are in the right areas.  The gravel road is known as Job corps dyke that puts you right at Crab creek up in the dunes area.  This year it was hard to see the fish due to the water being murky from the early rains through the month of April and May.  This continued until the algae blooms were affecting the clarity also.  Slow year but I guarantee you that there are carp everywhere in the reservoir.

The water would have definately been too low a month ago.  Be sure and give it a shot there next year as early as the first of April if you aren't out turkey hunting.  The best weekend we had this year was the second weekend of April.  Cold but still fun and plenty of fish.  It will get better throughout may and June then it goes downhill with the visibility.  You could have launched at Mardon on your last trip but you probably wouldn't have had much luck due to visibility.  Nothing more frustrating than seeing hundreds of mud swirls and no fish to shoot at!  Best of luck!

not sure what you men about Job corps dyke being any were near crab creek, seems how it is a totally different peace of water only connected by the spill ways and that it is on the other side of i-90 :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Maps and locals refer to the channel/deeper part of the potholes reservoir as crab creek.  Crab creek supposedly runs from north of Moses Lake through Moses Lake through the spillways and down through Potholes reservoir.  Hopefully that doesn't sound too confusing.
