I put in...don't matter what it is....if it's legal i'm gonna hunt for it (period) end of story.  For me its the journey, not the destination.

Ive always wanted to get a bighorn, and 22 years of applying in Washington for a ram tag, a ewe sounds just as good as a ram.... before i die  :chuckle:

For the meat and experience of hunting sheep, even if it is only a ewe.

Also, how funny would it be to get a grand slam with a ewe for your rocky mountain!

This is my take on the ewe hunt.  While I didn't put in, I don't understand why the WDFW created this hunt.  Is the big horn prime habitat at it's carrying capacity?  With the limited number of big horns out there, why have one of the baby makers harvested?  The only thing that would make sense is to allow such a hunt knowing that the $$$ for permits would do more good to the species than one ewe.  But, if that is the case, I think it would make sense for WDFW to point out which ewe should be harvested.  That way the 2 year old is spared and the 8 year old can be harvested.  Same experience, crappier meat but very little removal of productive life.

Just my .02

Ramslam or starbailey can probably answer this question better than me. Maybe they can chime in on this. But from what I've heard a lot of the sheep herds meet or exceed the target population. And what history has shown is that stockpiling sheep is not a good idea because of disease and such. So the only choice is relocation or harvesting. That's just my best guess.

Anyone know off their head what the ram/ewe ratio is?

And, if over population is becomming an issue, why the harvest of ONE ewe would be a solution?

Does anyone know if money for a specific species like sheep goes towards sheep?  Or do all permit fees go to "the general fund".....meaning the wolves.

I'm pretty sure they don't keep the special permit application fees separate by species. This year they have said the money will go towards providing additional access to private lands for hunters.
