Moose near Leavenworth?
« on: June 09, 2010, 11:19:59 PM »
Was up arounf Fish Lake in Leavenworth monday and saw a set of bull moose and cow moose tracks going right down the road.  Has anyone heared of them establishing around there?  I know weve had a few wander in to Wenatchee now and then.  That would be cool if they populate around here!  Any sightings id like to hear about, thanks !

Rumor is they are up around the Lake Wenatchee area.  My buddies uncle who mines up around Chiwawa told us stories of seeing Moose, Wolves, and even Grizzlies.  I've heard of Grizzlies in the Tumwater canyon before as well.

Regarding the Moose I know the ones they captured in Wenatchee were relocated up Derby Canyon.  My buddy lives near the base of the canyon and followed the release rig up there.  They periodically go up there with radio collar tracking devices and search to see where they are.  It's pretty good habitat for them up there and around the upper Swakane with all the bogs and such.  Wouldn't surprise me one bit to know they're up around Lake Wenatchee.

10 plus years ago where the Little Wenatchee dumps into Lake Wenatchee there was a moose or couple moose that hung out in that grassy area there. I heard someone came along and popped them.

Every once in awhile a moose wonders through Wenatchee/E Wenatchee or the surrounding areas.  A big bull was seen and photographed swimming the Columbia north of Swakane several years ago.

There was a young bull poached and left along side the road near Lake Wenatchee but that was closer to 20 years ago.

That would be super cool if they are trying to establish around there, looks like excellent habitat for them. It was cool watching the pair of moose last summer run around Wenatchee at Riverfront park, and at Macy's.

saw pics of a moose in the glacier peak wilderness a couple of summers ago.  Looked a little out of place in the alpine.
