The results were just validated today and the smack-talk and bets are already happening. There is a steak dinner and a keg of beer (that all of us locals will get to drink) already on the line between 50Cal and Bearhunter.

The after party may be as fun as the hunt itself!  Went scouting tonight and videod 2 spikes and a cow, Im going to have to invest in some serious DV tapes this year.

I got drawn for the archery spike tag for Nooksack.  We'll have to team up and do some scouting together at some point.  Congrats on the awesome tags!

Sounds good Shane.  There are a couple nice drainages that you are familiar with were the big ole bear is at I want to hike into and scout out, as there is always a half dozen bulls in there.

If you bet him that he wouldn't do it, it would take a lot less than a million

Why would someone want to be drawn for a spike only tag in the Nooksack unit?  I am just curious.

Why not?  You dont lose any of your quality points and your in elk everyday.

Like I said, just curious.  I grew up following my dad around the unit back in the 80s before the elk were over harvested (not sure who did that? ) and it is a fun unit to hunt but I think it would be a tough hunt trying to find those spikes.

My cousin drew muzzle anybull in 08 and i went on archery anybull 09 and to say the least filling a spike tag is going to be much harder but if you are a local guy the only other bull hunts are in saint helens so there really isnt too many other options.  You are 100% right about finding those spikes though.  The ones i saw were with a ton of cows or down in the fields.  Its definately not going to be money in the bag.

I videod 2 spikes the other night.  The Nooksack elk are very callable elk because of the limited hunting pressure, and nothing entices a spike more than when he thinks there is a lone cow broke away from the herd for him to breed, I think its a doable hunt just not a gimme, but there is no gimme hunts even in the Nooksack :twocents:

I don't expect the hunt to be an easy hunt at all.  But at least I get to hunt elk within an hour of my house and get to hunt the Nooksack herd for once.  Also, I don't lose any quality elk points and I can get some good photos/video of the big bulls we bugle in!  Hopefully we can at least get some nice, tender elk steaks in the freezer!

I wouldnt bugle for the spikes though, they should come fairly easy with a good cow calling sequence.  Almost everytime I been up there with other hunters weve had spikes come in!
