Just made it to Republic! 32 degrees and snowing hard. Guess we will be tracking turkeys in the fresh snow.

Driving to my motel, I always pass this one field. Not sure why, but there are always lots of turkeys in this field. Two gobblers were mounting hens. Other gobblers had their fans on display. That was 5pm today.
Same situation as last year and the year before.

Should we be doing anything different in the rain?
yep...drinking coffee in camp!  :chuckle:

Rain makes turkey hunting pretty tough.  They are usually less inclined to gobble, but can still come to a call.  I try to hunt more open areas and stay until I'm too miserable to continue.
They will often stay in roost a bit longer too.

Good luck this weekend guys!
Some of the best turkey hunting I've had was around 10 am when It rained all night and into the morning and stopped raining at about 7am. Good luck Yelp, it's 3:30 am opening morning, going to set close so I need it to be DARK! ;) Put 7 toms to bed and only saw 6 hens w/them, so maybe my buddy and I w/bouth get one. Good luck to you. :hello:

Saw lots of turkeys in yards. Apparently the locals don't bother with the morning hunt. They started to show up around noon.

It's been a hard spring. I don't think the breeding is in full swing yet. I saw 4 toms and 15 hens come out of the timber Sat. morning out of the roost, the toms hardly strutted and just fed all morning w/the hens. It's been the same in the afternoon, the hens are feeding the toms feed and push each other around. But no strutting. :dunno:

I saw small flocks of hens by themselves. No gobbling to speak of. Only saw one tom strut. The others were just eating. The hens with the toms did not seem to be attached to any tom and the toms were not showing any interest in the hens.
