I thought I would try my hand at building a layout boat for duck hunting. Looked at several designs and found one I liked that seemed to be pretty reasonable to build, so I bought the plans in Feb. but sense I have no garage or shop to build it in, I had to wait until the weather got better, so here I am.

The plans I bought came with a template to build the transom and front support and ended up doing my own to make it a tad bit taller in the transom. So far it has not been to hard of a build, took me about 2 hours to cut out the parts last night and I spent about 4 hours today putting it together and waiting for the epoxy to dry/ I got as far as I can for today, I want the epoxy to dry completely before I cut off the support, then I start glassing it.

These are just a few pic of the build process.

The parts cut out (some of the parts)

The transom and front support installed and startting the side walls.

The bottom half of the boat complete, and glued. Just gotta wait for the epoxy to dry.

I got the plans from http://www.hybridduckboat.com/files/  They have a few different designs to chose from, and so far, I am in to it $130. There is a few other things I need to get so the price is going to go up but I should be able to keep the build about $200 + or -.

Worked on the top portion of the boat today. Now I wait for untill tommorow for the epoxy to dry, then I can remove the stitching, use fill where needed and FG it  :IBCOOL:

The guy that designed this kit isn't exactly a toothpick either...  :twocents:

No he is not. I called and talked with him before i bought the plans because I was conserned with the amout of weight the boat would hold. He informed me the guy in the video that was testing the boat is 300lbs. With that said, I was not worried  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Boat is looking good! I built an SN last summer and have really loved it! Looks like you're getting away a lot cheaper than I did. I think I ended up with about $400 into mine after wood, glass, hardware, and paint.

Kind of screwed up a little in the build process (fortunately the project is quite forgiving), but here's the end result:

Happy building!

Thanks for posting the great pics and progress reports. Looks like you are moving right along with a fun project. I have been looking at designs and plans for a while now and am hoping to build my own marsh boat this summer. If the marsh boat goes well I will tackle a larger duck boat. I really like the "Duck Hunter"  by Gator Boats though I might make it a bit larger than their design.
