Decent Western Washington Areas To Hunt Elk With Modern Rifle
« on: October 12, 2011, 03:19:41 PM »
So I got stuck purchasing an elk tag this year since they dont have the Deer-Bear-Cougar combo anymore. Kinda bummed about that. But now that I have the damn thing I am interested in using but I have it for modern firearm and on the westside should not have specified that info till I did some research. But I am pretty sure I cant switch so oh well. So my question to all of you is. Is there any decent elk hunting on the west side with modern firearm within an hour or hour and a half of kent wa I know that limits me quite a bit but I need something since there isnt much in the area that I hunt. Any info would be appreciated thank you

To answer your question, yes there is. Some good spots I would say are fairly close to you. I wont tell you those. If you want some good spots that are farther south around 3 hrs from you, PM me. I hunt the eastside, so I can give up a few spots on the westside.

If you are so uninterested in it....why go? Wow.

From Kent, you are within range of many great elk hunting areas. Do some research or somebody is going to suggest you try Island county.

Eatonville or Enumclaw are your best bets. I would hunt Eatonville before Enumclaw, but you may have to get permission in either area. It is posted down low, but if you get off the main roads you can find some decent areas.

Well to start sorry I didnt seem interested. I just have never gone elk hunting. I would love to go but I havent had the resources to do so. I have hunted deer my entire life of hunting and have done well. Just havent had the oppurtunity to go for elk. But since I had to purchase a elk tag to get deer, bear, and cougar in a combo I figured hell why not try the forum and see if I could get some good info and possibly give it a shot this year. But I see that some are more willing to criticize one for the situation they have at hand rather than help them out. But thank you to the ones that are willing to lend some usefull information.

I think a big part of it was the wording above....some of us dont get to elk hunt this season and would give anything to be stuck with a tag, so when you worded it that way you really came off kinda like you didnt care about it so why should we  :dunno: plus the crowd here is always a little rough on the new guy especially on the main forum....and for some reason the elk are even more heavily guarded and coveted than the other critters....

and you are in reach of good elk areas but elk take some research and leg work....

Alright fair enough I can appreciate that. And I apologize. I do truly care and I have always wanted to elk hunt but never had the oppurtunity growing up to do so. But now being on my own for the most part hunting and not having alot of friends or any friends that hunt its tough. So again I apologize. And your not joking about being tough on the new guy I joined this amazing site last year posted a couple things and man was it put under a microscope. Oh well

Dont mind em internet bullies they did the same to me.  But as far as the westside goes Packwoods good theres elk up there by you a little east but on the westside.  The olympics have elk up by forks.  The south end has elk around the willipa hills.  there are elk all over the state.  Ive seen them elk around enumclaw buckley eatonvill the acsses is kinda limited but good luck! i hope to find a bull for my old lady to shoot on the westside.
