That's a good thing, SCI is for hunting what NRA is for the 2nd amendment.

$1000 per hunter in trophy fees is nothing, if you went over there, shot 4-5 animals, had them mounted there then shipped home it would be nothing to get $10-12,000 wrapped up in a hunt like this.

Safaris (and other trip-type items as well) bought at auction often contain costs that add significantly to the total cost.

Looking at this example: 3 extra days per hunter x $350 per day = $2100.

Trophy fees: $2,000 does not go very far. Here are just a few sample prices for plains game: eland $2967, gemsbok $1653, kudu $2735, sable $14,329, black springbok $1193, waterbuck $2415, zebra $1637, impala $495.  Fees can easily top $5,000 for two hunters to shoot five animals apiece.

Trophy dip/pack/ship/taxidermy: add several thousand if you want to mount some of the animals.

Of course you then add airfare, doctor visits for meds, tips, incidental expenses, gear and clothing you "must have", etc.

The $2000 safari that sounds go great at auction becomes $8000 - $10000 very quickly upon closer examination.

This is not unusual.  It is not the outfitters's fault if the conditions are clearly spelled out at auction. "Buyer beware".

Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

I'm guessing the Deal has an expiration/use by date and the buyer just found out how much more it will cost beyond the Auction price.  Maybe he needs to unload it fast??
