Geee...do you think there's any connection to the govt hoarding ,223 ammo and Sec of Defense Panetta's statement to Congress that they would look to UN or NATO as a legal authority to go to war rather than congressional authority.

That's called mass psychology. You tell the masses a big enough lie, enough times and the masses will believe it.

And they probably will have it for the same price in a year.  Ammo companies are not going to stop making the stuff.  Just because the gov't is buying it all up (if that's even the case), they're just going to make more.  If in fact the gov't is buying massive amounts of ammo, they are only serving to make ammo manufacturers more money.

Yeah, this sounds silly to me, all due respects. It's not like they've ordered the ammo companies to stop making it. This sounds like an urban myth type thing.

It doesn't say anything about the government purchasing all the surpluss ammo being the reason.

Some of you guys really are a little paranoid. :chuckle:

OK so lets assume it is a lie... Is it a bad idea to have a bunch of ammo socked away? I only wish i had bought more CMP 06 ball a few years ago when i got it for 35c around... its double that now. If you have to buy all the componets for a 223 even brass how close is it to 25c a round?

Brass can be used over and over but I added up what it cost me to load my .223, thisis with new brass, 26.8gr of tac, 50gr molyedV-max.= $.27 a round.
New WW .223 brass is $20 a bag of 100 but I'm reusing it 6 times.
I buy componants a little at a time and keep a good stock so when I fire up the dillon press, I can load up a few hundred at a time.

Be carefull reusing your brass. Several years ago I had some reloads and was just plinkin with an AR. I had a piece of brass seperate and stay in the chamber. I stacked another round on top of it and set that round off. The bullet had nowhere to go and stayed in the chamber. The blast went backwards and bulged the receiver and puked all the rounds out of the bottom of the mag. I had a huge powder burn on the right side of my coat. the end result was a ruined receiver.

Nope, pretty good idea I'd say.

The military stuff is a pain to reload.  I have broke several decapping pins in the past trying.  I haven't purchased any in quite a few years so it may be different but the military stuff all had crimped in primers.  I haven't reloaded any of that stuff in 15 years or better.
