Go-Pro Hero2
« on: April 24, 2012, 04:24:59 PM »
Who uses one if so how does it work for hunting just ordered one and thought it would be neat to get fish under water before netting or Mabey while spear fishing which I plan on getting into this summer. I would also like to take it backpacking. If you have one lets see pictures or video and how do you mount it to different stuff

I have one, I got it for snowmobiling, I do plan on using it for hunting this year though, Its only good for close up shots since there is no zoom on it. I am going to make a mount for my shotgun & rifle. It will be perfect for good filler footage.

I have two on my facebook page, taken with the standard GoPro. One is rafting last spring and the other is from snowboarding. The video quality is excellent for the small package and they are simple and easy to use

I have used mine in everything from skydiving, scuba diving, spear fishing and hunting. Great for a full field of view (fish eye kind of lens). Anything with any distance (15-20 yards) will be hard to see. I had a black tip shark check out a trigger fish I speared at about 25 feet. The shark was about 5 feet long. I was stoked as I thought it would be on vid. It is, but not impressive.
On the same hand some of the other scuba vids/ skydiving vids were bad a$$.
I used it it once hunting. Kind of a pain. I dont like things on my head much, and a chest rig is to big and noisy for my hunting style. We had a calf come into about 7 yards and hang out for over a half hour. You can hear me mewing, and him the same but its not as clear as you would think at that range.
you may check out the Venture ( i think thats the name). My guys have them and most prefer them as they tend to get better shots at distance. You an still get a waterproof case as well.

I have a gopro and a contour Roam, both are good, the contour is way easier to use and smaller, but is not water proof like the gopro in the case, and sound is not as good.

Mount I made for my car

mounted onto one of my planes

Set the video to HD and compare

Contour on my glider

Gopro on the glider

Its not velcro, its the helmet strap you buy for the gopro, I made a mount so my contour fits all my gopro mounts too.

This is what it looks like from gopro

Can you provide a link to the Sony NEX gen?  I looked at the Costco GoPro's and they are not the GoPro II.  Video fishing and hunting in a water proof camera sounds like fun to me.

here is my go pro under water. I want to get a flat lens for it. It looks like it makes a pretty big difference.

Here is another one. I mounted it on my rod with the handlebar mount.

I didn't think I would like it that much but they are really fun once you start to play with them.

I have the gopro hero 2 and love it. Have used it as a helmet cam for on the quad, snowmobiling, and a pig hunt in California. I am amazed on the quality of video that the camera shoots, no zoom for hunting but still very cool and worth it in my opinion.
