broadhead tuning.. and legal arrows.

So Moving to Washington i discovered that the arrows which kill stuff just fine in FL, OK, MO, AR, arent legal here out of my bow. (8.2gpi Gold tips with 125 muzzy or magnus) to make the weight limit I have to either go to heavy arrow, like a 10gpi..(and the few I have dont fly great with broadheads)  or I can crank my bow down to 60, -them my gold tips are legal! that law makes a lot of sense.. because I'm sure my 380gr arrows are much deadlier at 60lb than 65... then to add to the fun, the last half dozen arrows i ordered- are straight fletched, not helical.. no big deal, right? Except with the straight fletch arrow #1 always goes 3" right, #2 goes 3" left.... i am not going to label my arrows on the fletch with "left", "right"- I'll just use the recurve before i do that.  fortunately I figured out what was causing them to fly weird and dug out some older arrows - the fletches are all different, but they are all helical, not straight- and they all go into about a four inch spot at 40yds...

I suspect when you get your bow tuned to the new arrows, you might actually find your shooting more consistent.  I fletch helicals on all my shafts, which usually tightens up my groups, but even the straight fletchings grouped OK.  If you match the spine to the bow and weight forward percentage recommended in most of the archery software, then you will usually have a legal arrow.   Used to just scrape off the vanes from the ones I got from the sporting goods stores, now just buy them by the dozen unfletched and fletch them myself.  You mentioned Muzzy and Magnus 125.  I'm suspecting you're shooting the cut on contact Muzzy Phantoms or Magnus Stingers?  If so, Muzzy has a new 150 grain cut on contact broadhead out now that will give you some added weight as well as more weight forward which should translate into more consistent shooting.  Like the other blades mentioned, the blade surface is rather large, so any errors in form or tuning will be particularly magnified with those broadheads.

I use the 125 3 blade muzzy's and the magnus are the nugeblade style old type cut on contact 2 blade.. you  are probably right about the weight forward thing, and I did consider getting weight inserts for the gold tips..

Hillbillies a 380 grain arrow is legal at 63 lb. I would drop the 2 lb from 65 and call it good. You won't notice much speed or trajectory difference going from 65 to 63.

Not sure I understand how an arrow at 8.2 GPI, with 125 grain BH's, with an insert (11 gr's min), nock and fletching another say 18Gr's to 25 gr's.... if the arrow is 29" that all adds up to over 390.  So lets just think, if 6 gr's per pound of DW, 6 x 65 = 390  WHat length arrow are you shooting that only wieghs 380ish with 125 gr tips?

put a scale to your bow and make sure its pulling 65......then, if you dont have a grain scale, get an inexpensive digital reloading type for abot 30 bucks and weigh your finished arrows......see what you have and go from there.

The arrows are only 27".. thus the light weight. i'm aware the 380gr would be legal at 63.. but dont have ready access to a scale to check draw weight, so until I do, going down the correct number of turns for 60lb should give me enough buffer.. Hell until i came here I never turned that bow down below 70, but there's very little trajectory difference with that bow at 65. I will probably just order my next batch of arrows a little longer to make weight. I really dont want to order a bunch of new arrows a month before season.

I would keep you draw weight up and just purchase heavier arrows. Sound like your current arrows are for short distance hunting and speed. Look for better flight with more weight...
