thanks it was a pretty hot evening and frankly I thought it was going to be a waste of time. But at the request of my buddy we went and started cooking about five thirty about seven or a little after I seen the bear come out 800 yards across the canyon from me and two draws down from where Billy was sitting. I couldnt get ahold of him on the phone he had it off but it didnt matter the bear meandered uphill feeding on service berrys and bushes untill he came level with my buddy who took about a 250-300 yard shot. I dont know how heavy the bear is or how big still cuz dont got nothing to compare to. but the 50-60 yards we had to drag him uphill to get to the dolly was TOUGH! after that it was easy cheesy. I thought his coat looked pretty thick for how hot it has been and the bear seemed fairly heavy. I sweated a ton getting the bear out. Now I am excited about going hunting for my own bear! I think I might wait till its cooler

Congrats to your buddy. I don't know if that is the same bear. The one your buddy killed looks like its got more of a square head and a darker muzzle and face. I also think its a better bear then the first one. I would guess 150-160 on that bear. Not the best pic's for guessing.

I was thinking the same thing, first bear pics the muzzle looks lighter than the successful set of pics.

But either way, congratulations, any first bear is a trophy!!

Congratulations on the great bear.  It does look like a different bear from the first one based on muzzle color.  Go back and shoot the other one just to be sure.

I guarantee that bear weighs more than 150. I packed out a 165lb bear 2 weeks ago that wasnt that big.

:chuckle: When most people see a bear it is almost always a 300 pounder ...Hard to tell from that picture but it is not over 170 ...that I do know ...another thing I will point out is the bears on the eastside seem to grow bigger and over on the wetside the average bear is around 200 lbs .. thats just fact ...when you get one pushing 300 then you have a trophy ... :twocents:  Thats a nice bear and I would of whacked it .... Never was a trophy hunter and never will be .... meat in my freezer is all I care about  :chuckle: 8)
