Need help finding good river guide for older parents
« on: September 01, 2012, 08:48:51 AM »
So here is my request for your help. My 70 year old father with Parkinsons and 67 year very young mother want to fly out from back east and have a "memory filled" salmon/ trout river fish (not jet boat) before my father cant do it any more.  I was thinking maybe two half day drift trips and a bed a breakfast. Both my parents love to fish but dads ballence isnt what it once was.  Im sure this last minute request by mom would be a spring/ summer trip for this next season.

Beamers down out of Clarkston-Lewiston might be a good place to start. They have been around for years and offer all kinds of river stuff, overnighters etc.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I suggest you act now.  I was in the same boat (no pun intended) several years ago, but did not act.  Now my 83 yo dad's mobility is way too compromised to ever get into a boat again, much less go fishing.

Last year my GF's son and I used: Skagit River Fishing Guides ( 888-6-Skagit)
www.SkagitRiverFishingGuides.com , or www.SkagitEagles.com .  Thet are very nice people, and seem very accomodating.  They commercial fish in Alaska during some of the summer, but I think they could steer you in the right direction.

It may cost a little more for your folks, because they may have to put two guides into the boat -  one to oar and one to assist.  But that would be a small price to pay for their enjoyment

If your fathers balance isn't that good I wouldn't recommend a drift boat trip. Why no jet boats?

My parents are the LL bean type. They enoy the peaceful sounds of the river and I thought they would enjoy "the art" of a good oarsmen. Im really wanting them to have a trip they wont soon foreget.  I have never done a river drift so I guess I really dont know what would be best but I do thank all that have an helpful input.
