Got a variety to chose from, what ever I feel carrying that morning.  Ruger 77 in .280Rem; Rem 700 in 30.06; Golden Eagle in , 7mm mag; Mauser actions in 7X57, .308, 338-06, 243, 6X55; M1 Garands in .308 & 30.06.

For ammo I roll my own; mainly use Barnes TTSX & Nosler

I am shooting a 1909 Argentine Mauser 98, in 7x57.  Custom made for me, with a Fajen stock of Mytlewood.  Its topped with a Leupold VX1 2-7x33mm.
Also when the mood hits me, I shoot my Belgium Mauser 98 custom , with a mannlicker style walnut stock, in 7x57 with a Leupold VX1.  For my old stand by, I have a 1917 Enfield, Remington, in 30/06, custom. with a Bushnell World Class scope.
I love my old military customs.
If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.

Two animals down this year with my new Tikka T3 in .243 with Barnes Vortex 80 grain ttsx.  A large bear a few weeks ago and last weekend a nice 4 point deer.   The bear I knew had to be perfect shot placement and the deer did not take even one step.  Taking the Tikka out for elk this weekend.

I have 2 guns in camp this year. First is a Ruger #1 in 7 x 57.  Second is a pre-64 Winchester 70 in 300 H&H magnum.  Either one will do the job.

Past years(and all of my deer and 1 elk) have all been win mod 70 in 7 mm Rem mag.  Most deer were with 120 or 140 gr hand loads.  The elk was with a 150 gr Win factory load.

Have now gone to an Savage Model 116 in '06.  It is still unproven as I failed to harvest an animal this year.  But eventually it will use an accurate, read tested, 165 gr premium bullet for all big game hunting.  Love how the gun shoots.

Tikka T3 stainless .300wm, Winchester brass, Federal 215 primer, 75.5gr RL22 powder, 180gr Nosler Accubond. gets the bullet moving pretty good and is my "kill everything" gun. plan on getting a .308 down the road and will use it for local deer hunting. i pack my 300 in the hills though since i like to be ready for everything and just in case i have to stretch a shot out there. if i hit something...i want to hit it good haha. haven't had many shots through this rifle but on paper it proves pretty promising. with my custom turret on my Leupold VX-3L it is close enough at 500yds to hit a deer. i'll be spending much more time stretching it out this coming spring.

No such thing as one good rifle. That be like saying you could golf with just one club. My choices are usually my 7mm Browning ABolt with bipod and Leupold 6.5-20vx III with 160 gr Federals.

Or my .338 RUM in a Rem 700 with Leupold 4-12 and 250gr Barnes XXX with 100gr. R19.

Or my .243 with 100gr Remington core locs and 4-12 Pentex.

All have there place...

Forgot the single shot .308 with 150gr BT and 3-9 Leupold. That's my favorite logging rd. gun. Like said they all have a purpose.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

remmington model 700 .308 it was bought brand new 1979 by my dad and given to me about 5 years ago but I started using it when I was 15
always bought factory 150 grain with it and it shot excellent killed 7-8 deer with it. at the range best I could shoot was about 3/4 inch groups. Had a gunsmith my cousin take and look at it, he reset the trigger to 3 lbs and loaded me 165 grain bullets that are a little hotter then factory to get velocity up there. I have went with him shooting several times and hit targets out to 1008 yards which is alot of fun...that being said I wouldnt shoot at a deer that far. that was 2 years ago and since then I have killed 2 deer with 2 shots. but nothing over 250 yards

Awesome, I just picked up a Tikka T3 lite .243 yesterday. Hopefully I'll get to shoot it this weekend.
