Eastside bull down..
« on: September 18, 2012, 12:09:42 AM »
I got lucky and drew a quality elk tag with 8 points pretty close to home which made convenient for the several scouting trips I made . My hunting partner was nice enough to take time off work to join me. Opening morning found us on 3 of the 4 bulls that I had seen the night before, only to be foiled by a couple deer hunters which blew them out into a different area. After 3 days of both deer and elk encounters we took a break after the morning hunt and went to a different area for a change of scenery and to look for a deer for my hunting partner. It didn't take long and he shot a decent 3pt mule deer and the sign on the arrow caused us to err on the side of caution and leave the deer and return several hours later to find it  75 yards away from where we left it. So by the time we got the deer all taken care it was to late to head back after elk , plus we were beat. The following morning I was within a 100 yards from the bull I was after only to have the wind shift and he got a little whiff of hunting partner that stayed behind while I went on the stock, so off to find some shade and take a few practice shots and wait for the evening to get back after them. We had a pretty good idea of where they would be in the evening so we got there 2-1/2 hours early and waited and with about 10 minutes of shooting light left my partner whispered, good bull to our left, it was him... He ranged him at 46yds, I shot him through both lungs and we watched him go down 55yds later.......

If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.
