Found lead shot while cleaning mallard drake
« on: November 18, 2012, 06:04:58 PM »
While cleaning a drake I shot today I found what looks like #4 lead shot. The story below is the details on how I got the bird

I took my dog with me today to try to get him on birds and ended up with a great situation, found a crippled mallard drake about twenty yards out in the water so I sent my dog out after it and he didn't seem too interests in retrieving it while it was alive so I finished the drake with a 3 in bb heavy shot.  ( I let it swim out a ways so I didn't destroy it) my dog went out and retrieved it and brought it to me. This was his first retreive even though I have been Hunting with him for three years and have harvested plenty of quail and pheasants over him but he never wanted to retrieve them so I had been force fetch training him over the winter and it looks like I got the desired results.

Could be Bismuth.  Soft lead-like non toxic shot.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Could have been your own shot.  Cut open one of your Hevi-Shot BB's.  You will find all sorts of different sizes in it.  They will look deformed from the start and I don't know if your magnet will pick it up!
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I have found lead shot in a few pintails, and so has a buddy of mine. Is it possible that they are shot in Mexico because there is no way that all Mexicans use steel, as racist as that is  :chuckle:

Have you had ballistics done on that piece of shot yet?  Who ever shot this should get a fine of at least $1000.00 like it says in the waterfowl regulations.

Have you even called the police yet?   :dunno:

I have a friend that is personal friends with a game warden so I'm going to be contacting him today and telling him all the info and give him the piece of shot if he wants to test it.
