New to 3D
« on: December 16, 2012, 04:33:55 PM »
Just got into archery about 6 months ago and would like to get into some 3D shoots. I wasn't able to take any live animals this year so I am hoping I can kill some foam. I think there are a couple shoots coming up at Skookum and TSC. I can use my hunting setup for these, right? There are different classes? I wont be competing against the guys I see out there with 3' stabilizers? Do you just show up and sign up? I understand rangefinders can't be used. Where can I find more info on the rules? Where can I find info on other shoots in the area? Will any of you guys be at the Dirty 30? Thanks for any help.

Just do it! The people running the shoot, while classify you according to your shooting equipment..... don't worry about 3" stabilizers, if you can estimate range, put the arrow where it belongs.........go fling and learn

You can use rangefinders at least at Skookum, never shot TSC but I believe you can use them there as well. You can use your hunting setup, that's what I do, field points only of course. I will probably shoot the one at skookum.

Whidbey Island Bowmen 3D shoot 5 and 6 January.  30+ targets each day, must shoot both days for trophies.  $20 to shoot both days, $10 per day for adults.  Lunch and breakfast will be available.  Casual start Saturday 8-12, and shotgun start on Sunday at 9 AM.

Any shoots were they put you in a class and your competeing rangefinders are not aloud unless they have rangefinder class which one club did last year just dont remember who. Thats why i started shooting 3ds was to improve my yardage judgement

I know at Tacoma, they have tried a range finderclass but decided to go away from it because of the other problems it created. 1 issue is you would have a group of rangefinder guys shooting at a target and talking about the yardages and guys that are not in the range finder class standing there or nearby hearing the yardage and scoring better than the guys in the same class that guessed their own yardage and didnot as score well. Or the guy that signs up for the none rangefinder class but uses one and is not questioned about it on the course because there is a rangefinding class and scores better than the guys in the same class that did not use one. It is easier to weed the cheaters out on a 2 day shoot because if they score well on day 1 because they use a rangefinder in a none rangefinder class and are flighted with the top shooters on day 2 and cannot use the rangefinder then there scores will reflect it. Also at Tacoma on 2 day shoots, if you shoot both days and do not shoot the 2nd day with your flighted group then you will forfet your opportunity the receive a trophy.

So when reading the schedule how do you know exactly where to go to shoot?  It basically says say tacoma but where in tacoma, also what do all the letters on the far right mean?
