new in town, lookin for some help?
« on: September 16, 2008, 11:48:07 PM »
hey everybody, I'm moving to Chehalis, Wa on the 1st of october, I'm originally from idaho, but have been in virginia for the last 5 years in the navy, i'm out now, and moving back to small town wa, can't wait. well what I wanted to know is where to go hunting around there, obviously your not gonna want to tell me your honey holes lol, but just a general idea of where to start out, I want to get in on the general deer hunt for sure this year, and maybe elk if possible, but i don't know if getting a tag this late in the season for elk is even possible. any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Also if anybody knows of someone getting rid of a mid caliber rifle ( 308, 270, 30-06) for a good price, i'd like to get a upgraded rifle, thanks. btw, i am left handed, but can shoot right handed bolt action fine, just would prefer left handed :) thanks
ryan

well if you wanna hunt the westside i have no clue where to go but there are deer and elk just about everywhere in the state, look at success rates on the wdfw website and find units with high success rate as well as higher numbers of animals killed and start there as some units just have smaller localized herds that mostly the locals will know about. and yes you can still buy an elk tag they are available any time of year over the counter. but almost all elk hunting on the eastside is spike only so take that into consideration when deciding where to hunt

you picked a great place to start. for elk most of the areas around you are 3pt min. and there are alot of deer near you. try and pick up a weyhauser tree farm map for twin harbors south. it will show you alot of the roads and terrain around the area. i used to live in centralia and always had alot of success near there. send me a pm and ill try to give you a lil more info

You have two area close to you for deer. Pe Ell area and Vale tree farm. I seen lots of big bucks come out of Vale tree farm last year. But keep in mind I got a VERY little spike last year out of that area. Hope this helps.
