Anyone load for a 338-06
« on: September 30, 2008, 09:46:40 AM »
Does anyone load for a 338-06.  I use 200 grain Hornady and IMR 4064; 180 grain Nosler BT also with IMR4064 with  good results of accuracy, .750 to 1" at 100 yards.  I use reformed Remington .270 cases.
Has anyone tried Barnes TSX?

Yup I got one of them critter.
Savage 111c, A&B barrel from Midway
Try some IMR4007ssc 57 -61C grs. behind Nosler 180s  /what the hodgdon site says.
Or IMR 4007ssc 51.5- 56 behind the Nosler 210 partition again from the book. Use at you own risk as am not re comending any loads .
I have worked my loads up for my rifle .
I am now using IMR 4007ssc in everything from, and between 22-250 to the 338-06.
Also start using 35 whelen brass and neck down work a heck of a lot better.

Seems like the mid range powders work well with the cartridge. Like RL-15 and IMR-4064. I agree, its easier to neck down than to stretch out!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

I will try the 35 Whelen case and see how they work.

I shoot a 210gr nosler partion with accurate 4350.  Can't remember right off how many grains of powder.  But I am getting right at 2700 fps with a 25 inch barrel.
