Smart choice, don't bring in kids in this world before you can provide comfortably or them.

NEVER would imagine to. I dont want my kids growing up the way I did.
With virtually no parents no family or anyone to direct you.
I basicly had to teach myself EVERYTHING. Made it rough.
HIGH FIVE for all the good parents on here. You get my vote.

I love bear meat and eat all of the animal that's not guts hide sinew or fat. Not sure who told you only 20% is good. If you want to believe them give the other 80% to me haha.

I gotta hand it to ya smossy I think you're a good dude had you're issues in the past as you've said but if the state lets you try and spear a bear and you try and the bear wins rest assured ill tell everyone you had cajones made of steel the size of coconuts  :chuckle:  but seriously take your lady up on her request in the mean time practice makes perfect
Btw thanks for the positive comment, I love it when people can notice change "not like you knew me 5-6 years ago" but Thats why I share my stories, Which so many people hate :)

IF I could legally do it, I absolutely ABSOLUTELY would try it. I like to push the limits.
I like the excitement of "not being completely safe". It makes life interesting.
Death is just one thing thats GUARANTEED, along with taxes lol. Why not go out wrestling a bear. Or wingsuit flying from a 10,400 foot cliff in norway. "Which I will be doing in 2018"

Im thinking this year may be successfull being I choose the right group to go out with.
I just want to learn everything I can really, Im not TOO concerned about getting one this year but If I do man, I couldnt thank everyone on here enough.

Several years ago (early 90s I believe) a good friend of my dad's talked to the WDFW about spearing big game and they gave him the OK to do it so long as it was used during archery season with an archery tag. I believe they used a different state's hardware requirements like broadhead size and spear weight and length as their guidelines to follow.
No idea whatever happened with him actually getting something or not, its been a long time since we last talked to him. Wouldn't surprise me if he got a bear with one though, that guy was crazy about getting up close to bears and successfully sticking them with his recurve.

Back in the late 60'sor early 70's I met a guy that hunted bears with a spear.  Said he made his own spears from car springs, and waked the paths in berry fields lookig for bears that were on the paths below him.  He carried a .44 Magnum revolver as a backup.  I think it's prohibited now, because on pg. 76 of the game regs it says you can only use a firearm, bow and arrow, or falconry to hunt game birds or animals.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Its just what I've read on some places, Like I said the internet is so full of contradicting information that I don't even like to look some stuff up anymore.
Lol My girl always wants babies! I tell her not until I'm established enough in life to be comfortable. I don't want to raise no kids in a bad environment.

LOL I do NOT want them now! Boy you be crazy ;) ... I only said "I'm not ready for you to leave me, we need a house and babies THEN you can be a dummy and go fight bears ;) " haha.. - I'm up for practice though.

I think it'd be interesting to see if you could get any type of game animal approved to hunt via spear. Something to look into. Very intimate way to take your animal.

Like others have said, it is illegal in WA. Several years ago someone posted a youtube video of them doing it in Pierce County. Didn't end up well for them...
please enlighten us bigtex, can you elaborate on this spearing that took place? i would like to hear more about it, hey smossy, i am right there with ya on the spearing thing, if you do a search you can see other threads that i have started about spearing a bear. i would love to do the same thing. back when baiting was legal, i got so close to bears all the time that i could see the moisture inside the nostrals of the bear, it was fun just to watch them, i had already killed a few bear and there is only so much a guy can do with the hide on a bear, i dont see the point in just throwing the hide away so i dont really hunt them anymore, and the meat is actually really good, especially if you kill a young one, and if you ever get to use a spear legally let me know, i know a guy that would do a damn fine job at videoing the hunt for ya  and one more thing to keep in mind, when you get that close to your quarry your adrenaline will do some amazing things and not always for the best
my grandpa always said "if it aint broke dont fix it"

It was legal in New Mexico at one time not too many moons ago, might still be.  I had a prof that went elk hunting down there with a spear.
