I haven't been there this year yet so I can't say.  Your best bet is to call the Forest Service right there in Pomeroy.  They will tell you exactly how far you can get in.

I imagine you can make it to Alder Thicket Campground and thats about it.  Like I said I haven't been in this year.
If you aint hunting, you aint livin'

Sorta along the same lines, how far up in elevation and into public land do they get around there? On the fringes of the forest service land or can ya find Rios all through most of the hills there. This will be my first year scoping the area out, don't wanna waste time going to far in or too high.

Do to severe snow in the area, the turkeys have been trapped and moved to an area, only I hunt! WEll thats not strictly true. Only the big 4 and 5 year old birds were moved to my area. Ya know the ones with 8 or more beards. Spurs over 2 inches etc. Actually, the snow is deeper than normal. And like someone else said the birds arnt in the snow anyway.

Snows never been a problem for us. Killed em in areas with 2' of snow still in the shady spots. Just tougher getting around.

Ok lots of talk about birds but what about the OP's original question?  Hows the snow situation?  Got a lick creek bear tag and I am wondering the same thing.  Am I gonna be able to get to the southern end of the unit in a few weeks through pomeroy or am I gonna have to go all the way around?  Besides everyone knows that ALL the turkeys are in Dayton! :peep:

Yeah, I dont think hes really asking about the snow to see if he can get to the birds. I think hes more asking to see if he can get to his usuall camping spot.

Haven't been that far south of town in a while.  Hopefully this weekend I can get some time to run that direction.  If I get a chance too I'll ask around and see if anyone knows.

Them Dayton turkey like to hang out on the courthouse lawn.  All you have to do is drive up and throw em in the rig.  :peep:

Just got back.  It's snowing pretty hard right now.  40 rd is open to Stentz springs cabins.      Didn't go past because the drifts were getting deeper and longer.  There was a drift near 4018 that could be problems as it thaws out.  Went over to the Iron Springs side (42 rd).  It was snowing even harder over there.  Could only make it to about 090 rd before the snow was getting too deep. Both roads are pretty rough, lots of wash boards and pot holes.
