My daughter started at 8 with a cheapo compound that wasn't much more then a toy, she learned the basics on it but didn't seem overly interested in it, then this past fall her 6th grade P.E. class spent a couple weeks doing archery and she outshot everyone in her class and received a lot of praise by her teacher and came home wanting a real bow. I bought her a Bear Apprentice 2 and the day after I gave it to her she broke her foot, its killing her not to get out and shoot it, probably another week of an already 2 month recovery. :bash:

Got my first store-bow at 5 yrs old, made our own (3 older brothers) out of vine maple and shrub branches for arrows. Just finishing up 2 elm longbows for 2 of my 3 grandsons ages 5 and 7. Gonna buy 3 yr old a nerf bow.
